It was in my Mid forties that I realized the true meaning of luxury….It wasn’t riches, or expensive clothes and cars…It wasn’t labels and it wasn’t even dining out in Michelin starred restaurants……
Luxury to me, was the precious ‘Time’ I created for myself….the time to look after myself…follow my pursuits….time with my dog and my family…time to just take off to strange and beautiful lands….
I found that I could turn around my day !!!
I could wake up before dawn and go for a run with my wolf pack !!!!
This was the time I was using to create a strong mind and body…the time was all mine…even if it was just a little over an hour each day !!!! It was my mediation…my rejuvenation…my endorphin release !!!
And running gave me the curiosity to explore new lands with exotic marathons !!!
So….this is what my blog will usually talk of…New lands…new people…new cultures…and the strength to run thru them !!!
The Budapest Full marathon that usually happens in fall, was scheduled for 21st October 2017 and I trained like a beast for it !!
It turned out to be a scorching day, pretty much like a summer solstice, with the sun out in its entire glory….the heat and the strong sunlight killed our endurance and I reached the finish line with cramped quads, calves and hams !!!
I had never figured it was possible to cramp in so many places and yet limp to the finish line !!!
But then that was what made the race so memorable !!!
However, the true beauty of the Run was that, it took us through the entire length of the winding Danube River, with Old Budapest on one bank and the new one on the other.
Historical and Gorgeous bridges spanned across the belly of the Danube and we crossed these a few times on our marked route.
We climbed up to the Buda castle, which is a stone structure looking over the entire city…down to the parliament, the modern day Ruling post of the city.
The city’s historical structures have the magnificence of the old jewish culture and the marks of history as various battles were fought down the centuries.
St Stephens Cathedral, the Old market, the Chain bridge, the green bridge are such amazing symbols of the many centuries of strife and upheavel this city has seen, and yet she arises with splendor today !!!
If you were to visit Budapest, do not miss the Ruin Pubs. A modern day , tradition of having beer within a pub that is constructed within a Ruined Historical building !!!
Zimpla is the place to go to !!!!!
The Thermal baths are beautiful, but slightly overrated and the cruise down Danube shows you the entire city in the evening bedecked in beautiful yellow and sulphur lights…the Dinner on the cruise is somewhat Iffy…but it’s a small price to pay for the amazing ride.
The local food is usually simple with meat, rice and veggies….and the people are warm and friendly !!
Budapest is beautiful any time of the year and welcomes you with open arms !! so go….live a little…
